How To Disassemble A Marcy Home Gym (Step By Step Guide)

How to Disassemble a Marcy Home Gym

Packing away a home gym can be challenging, but to ensure you do it safely and correctly, follow the instructions in the Marcy Home Gym manual.

If you do not have a physical copy of the manual for your chosen model, you can find it on the Marcy website [1].

The disassembly will be very similar for any Marcy home gym model, including the MWM-990, MWM-988, and Marcy Platinum.

You’ll want to make sure you adequately prepare for the job:

  • Gather all necessary tools (see our “Tools You Need” section below)
  • Make sure your workspace is clear of unnecessary items so you have plenty of space to work.
  • Have a camera or cell phone handy to take plenty of pictures from different angles, giving you a 360-degree visual record of your home gym.

Follow these steps:

  • Disengage and unwind cables and pulleys.
  • Dismantle the seat.
  • Disconnect the leg developers and foam roll tubes.
  • Remove the vertical frame backrest board.
  • Remove pulley brackets from the upper vertical frame.
  • Disconnect the foam butterfly wings.
  • Remove the front press base from the upper frame.
  • Detach the guiding rods and upper frame.
  • Remove the stopper frame from the upper vertical frame.
  • Separate the lower vertical frame from the higher vertical frame.
  • Remove seat support from the bottom vertical frame.
  • Detach the front base plate and main base frame from the leg developer holder.
  • Take off the primary foundation frame’s lower vertical frame.
  • Separate lower guide rods from the back foundation frame.
  • Remove all guide rods.

Do this for disassembly:

  1. Loosen every nut and bolt.
  2. Remove weight covers from the weight rack.
  3. Detach the cable.
  4. Detach the pulley sets and brackets.
  5. Disengage the butterfly cable.
  6. Detach foam roll tube from leg developer.
  7. Remove leg developer.
  8. Take off the foam grips from the front press.
  9. Detach the front press from the front, left, and right bases.
  10. Detach the backrest adjustment tube from the support frame.
  11. Detach the backrest from the backrest adjustment tube.
  12. Take off the short quick-release pin from the backrest support frame.
  13. Disengage lower guide rods from the rear base frame.
  14. Detach the backrest support frame from the front upright frame.
  15. Detach seat support from the leg developer holder.
  16. Remove the seat from the seat support.
  17. Remove the leg developer holder from the front upright frame.
  18. Remove all butterfly ads.
  19. Detach butterfly cable guides from axles.
  20. Detach butterfly support and puller frame from the front upright frame.
  21. Disengage top socket assembly from weight plates guide rods.
  22. Detach the selector stem from the top of selecting rods.
  23. Detach the top weight plate.
  24. Take out the selecting rod from the center hole of the plates.
  25. Detach weights from guide rods.
  26. Detach guide rods and bumpers from the base frame.
  27. Take off the upper from the top of the rear vertical beam.
  28. Remove the upper frame from the rear vertical beam and the upright front frame.
  29. Detach the upright front frame from the base frame.
  30. Remove the rear vertical frame.
  31. Remove both the front and rear base frames.

Tools You Need

  • Product manual toolkit
  • Two adjustable wrenches
  • Allen keys set
  • Phillip screwdriver
  • Plastic sandwich bags
  • Bubble wrap
  • Boxes

  • Old towel

And if possible:

  • Original packaging
