One of the most popular diet supplements I have been noticing at the gym is a fat loss product called Vintage Burn.

As a result, I reviewed online forums about this fat burner, spoke with a dietician about the ingredients list, and spent four months integrating the supplement into my diet and workout routine to see how well it works.

It’s been received quite well, and I could see why but I did find some downsides that I will share in this exhaustive Vintage Burn review. So, keep reading until the end to see why we are not too eager to recommend it and what alternatives are out there.

What Is Vintage Burn?

Holding a Vintage Burn product

Vintage Burn is a weight loss supplement designed specifically for athletes.

It is manufactured by Old School Labs and uses a blend of ingredients that promote fat burning while retaining lean muscle mass.

With thousands of positive reviews, if you search for Old School Vintage Burn on Amazon, you’ll see that it’s one of the biggest selling diet and weight loss supplements available right now.

This thermogenic fat burner has been shown to help athletes stay motivated in their weight loss goals by triggering thermogenic processes in the body, increasing energy levels, and improving mental focus.

The manufacturer has evolved its original capsule fat burner into a flavored fat-burning drink with two flavors: Strawberry Kiwi and Peach Mango.

Although the flavored Vintage Burn drink may be a better alternative, the new powder version lacks the nootropic ingredient bacopa and the common fat burner coleus forskohlii. However, it contains additional ingredients such as taurine, leucine, and L-carnitine.

Vintage Burn capsules are made entirely of naturally sourced, vegetarian-friendly ingredients. Let's take a closer look at what's on the inside.

Along with the fat-burning ones, stimulants are mixed in to help you stay mentally focused and motivated.

Essentially, the company took a holistic look at what an athlete needs to get the most out of a training session: increased energy, more fat burning, and motivation to keep up performance.

The makers also claim that the formula they came up with ensures that weight loss is achieved by targeting fat storage and avoiding the loss of muscle tissue. This is something that I always advise clients to pay close attention to, as not all weight loss is the same.

Now, let’s take a look at what’s actually in it.

What Are The Ingredients?

Supplement facts of Vintage Burn

Vintage Burn ingredients contain a mix of botanical extracts and stimulants. The good thing about this product is that it doesn’t hide behind a proprietary blend.

Each serving has a precise combination of ingredients, and I sat down with my friend Susan, a registered dietician. We went through all of the ingredients, and she explained what they were.

Vintage Burn contains 20g of protein per serving.

While I’m a total science nerd when it comes to this stuff, I’ll spare you a long and boring TL;DR section by giving you the CliffsNotes instead.

1. Raspberry Ketones

Raspberry ketones have been shown to be one of the more effective fat burners, as shown in a study on obese people [1].

But beyond helping to get rid of more fat, it also acts as an appetite suppressant that helps you focus more on healthy foods, according to the makers [2].

It is proven in other supplements to be effective, especially in shedding those unwanted fats.

“Raspberry ketone is the compound that gives raspberries their strong aroma and flavor. A synthetic version of it is used in cosmetics, processed foods, and weight loss supplements.” - Kris GunnarsNutrition Researcher

2. Caffeine

A hand pouring a scoop of coffee beans containing caffeine

This is one of the ingredients you will find in many weight loss supplements and pills.

The first impact from it is the one you’re probably most aware of, i.e., it makes you more alert and helps with focus.

But caffeine also increases your thermogenic metabolism, which results in faster processing of fatty acids and a reduction in fat storage [3].

Many users report that they lost a significant amount of weight after finishing a bottle.

Some of them were able to maintain their weight with continuous usage and a regular workout routine.

3. Green Coffee Bean Extract

A top view of green coffee beans

This extract isn’t so much about caffeine but rather about reducing your body’s ability to absorb and store fat, according to the company.

Unfortunately, there isn’t much scientific evidence to back this up. So far, it’s all anecdotal.

But our dietician mentioned that the chlorogenic acid in green coffee beans is the active ingredient that may help prevent weight gain.

It can also be found on other well-known thermogenic supplements in the market.

4. Green Tea Leaf Extract

A top view of green tea leaves and powder

There is definitely a positive impact from the antioxidants that green tea provides, and it will help you flush out a lot of toxins that accumulate even in a balanced diet [4].

The company also claims that green tea leaf extract will increase resting metabolic rates. It is also the main ingredient in our best nighttime fat burners because of its caffeine content.

Our clients who tried this product for the first time said that they have higher energy and they have been sweating a lot more than usual during workouts, which may be due to increased metabolism which helped them lose weight.

However, the few studies in this area have not provided conclusive results.

5. Garcinia Fruit Extract

Garcinia fruit with petri dish filled with powder in front

This is a common weight loss ingredient, and there have been quite a few positive results reported from adding just Garcinia fruit to your diet.

Susan, my dietician friend, does recommend this to clients, to block fat production and suppress appetite, so it’s a positive for this product.

And her clients also say positive reviews about this ingredient too, so everybody's happy.

6. Chrysin

A close up shot of chrysin flower

The company claims that Chrysin is the added substance to avoid muscle wasting.

Essentially, the aim is to focus on losing weight by fat reduction rather than losing muscle fibers.

However, there is very little actual evidence through double-blind clinical studies.

So, a bit of a question mark over the effectiveness of this. However, a few users are raving about how this fat burner helped them maintain and even build muscle mass while losing fat.

7. Olive Leaf Extract

Olives with leaves and a bottle filled with olive extract

Olive leaf extract was part of a study from 2015 in which a link between thyroid activity and reduction in DNA damage was shown [5].

It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that may help in lowering blood pressure and reducing food intake.

Whether it gives enough of a boost to help muscle recovery, as the company claims, is not entirely clear, though.

So, overall, the list of ingredients does contain some proven positive ones, but you’ll also be paying for some that are less evidence-based.

Other fat burner reviews:

8. Bacopa Leaf Extract

Studies on healthy adults suggest that bacopa leaf extract can improve focus, attention, and memory, which may help you concentrate better during workouts [6].

Commonly known as Brahmi or water hyssop, it is popular for its cognitive enhancing and anti-anxiety properties in traditional Ayurvedic medicine.

The manufacturers claim that it can help maintain your metabolic rate to ensure that you’re burning fat and losing weight.

However, current research does not provide sufficient evidence for any weight loss benefit to humans.

9. Forskohlii Root Extract

The active compound found in the roots of Forskohlii, called forskolin, has been used in many weight loss supplements in the past years.

Based on animal trials, forskolin has been proven to stimulate the release of stored fat from fat cells [7].

However, our dietician said that releasing fat alone is not enough to cause weight loss.

Also, the dosage of 60 mg per serving is very low compared to the recommended dosage of 200-500 mg per day from studies.

How Does Vintage Burn Work?

A healthy man flexing his muscles who uses Vintage Burn supplement

The Vintage Burn thermogenic fat burner works by combining ingredients that burn fat, boost muscle growth, and help keep you focused.

Based on what’s in it, I want to focus on those areas where we have some proof of the effects.

Let’s start with caffeine. This is a substance that dieticians recommend as part of a fat-burning or cutting phase in a training plan.

There have been a lot of studies on how effective it is at increasing metabolic rates, even during resting periods [8] [9].

Vintage Burn contains 150 mg in each serving, about the same as 2 cups of coffee.

Whether you exercise early or late in the day, this will also help to give you some mental focus to get through your sets with full motivation.

Now to the energy boosts.

The included ketones are positive, and with good timing, you'll get a boost at the right time of your training.

Even if these are short-lived boosts, they can make a big difference to your endurance.

After a few days of using this fat burner, I felt a slight increase in endurance as I was able to add a few more reps of push-ups and sit-ups.

Finally, the company claims that Vintage Burn stops muscle wasting.

This is a bit more questionable, and I could not find clear and positive reviews on this point.

My dietician thinks this is a bit of a dubious claim, as using this supplement in a bulking phase with the right training and diet will naturally increase rather than decrease muscle mass.

My research and own experience have been able to verify some of the company's claims, but not all of them.

Further down, I'll introduce an alternative supplement that I think will give you an overall better result.

Benefits

A smiling young man working out in a gym

The main benefits that the above ingredients provide are energy and fat loss.

When speaking to people at the gym and in forums and Facebook groups, I found that many users are positive about the extra energy it provides.

I used this supplement for about 6 months to see how it compared to my usual one (more on that below), and it does provide a good boost.

Just looking at the numbers from training, it doesn’t seem to be quite as good as my usual fat burner.

As my own BMI is very low, I had to rely on feedback from people online and at the gym.

Many of them said that they noticed a slight increase in fat reduction compared to before using this product.

Overall, the results I found were good, but not great, if you seek to lose weight and preserve muscle.

Pros

Cons

  • Some users report stomach upset and nausea

Side Effects

Yes, a few side effects come from the Vintage Burn thermogenic fat burner. It is the result of the chosen ingredients.

Even though its lactose and gluten-free, there have been quite a few reports of users suffering from side effects, like nausea and fatigue, with regular use.

While this seems to be dosage-dependent, I did find a lot of feedback from regular use.

The other thing to note is that the caffeine dose is relatively high at 150 mg, and if you’re sensitive to stimulants, you might notice jitters and some insomnia. With no caffeine-free option available, this is a bit of a downside.

Our clients think that the energy boost is wonderful, but there were nights when they found it hard to sleep even when they took the last dose early in the afternoon.

Finally, while most supplements are not FDA-approved, I generally recommend using products made in approved facilities, which is not the case with this one.

For me, there are just a few too many reports of negative effects.

What Vintage Burn Customers Have to Say

Here are some customer reviews that may help you understand why we have reservations about the fat-burning power of the Vintage Burn.

For Hailey, Vintage Burn provides a mild fat-burning effect, as she has noticed a slight weight loss after over a year of use. Additionally, she claims that this supplement made her drowsy.

  • Hailey from Georgia

Kyra says Vintage Burn is a good fit for her twice-weekly light workouts. Also, she said she enjoys supplements that contain mild ingredients that only provide a sufficient energy boost

  • Kyra from Texas

Tracy, a certified fitness coach, is dissatisfied with Vintage Burn's mild boost in physical performance, calling it a waste of time and money.

  • Lincoln from Florida

Fat Burner Alternatives

PhenQ

PhenQ is a popular fat burner that is also known as a 5-in-1 weight loss supplement.

It contains all-natural, scientifically-backed ingredients like caffeine, capsimax powder, L-carnitine, and nopal to burn stored fat, block fat production, control appetite, enhance energy, and boost focus.

The only common ingredient PhenQ and Vintage Burn have is caffeine with about the same dosage.

However, PhenQ was also added in the α-Lacys Reset® weight loss formula, proven to burn fat while preserving muscle mass.

It is a vegan-friendly supplement that works well for individuals who want to shed excess fat and boost energy levels.

LeanBean

LeanBean is an all-natural female fat burner that claims to promote thermogenesis and naturally suppress appetite.

Like Vintage Burn, it sources caffeine from green coffee bean extract. Still, it also has turmeric to boost metabolism, glucomannan, and chromium to control appetite, choline, and Garcinia Cambogia to aid in fat metabolism, and B vitamins to reduce fatigue.

Unlike Vintage Burn which mainly provides an energy boost, it’s a vegan-friendly weight loss pill formulated for women that have been proven to burn fat, regulate appetite, and increase energy to work with and not against your weight loss efforts.

Instant Knockout

With an all-natural, transparent, vegan formula, Instant Knockout Cut is a fat burner initially formulated for bodybuilders and performance athletes.

It aims to accelerate metabolism and promote thermogenesis to burn fat without losing muscle mass.

Like Vintage Burn, it uses caffeine and green tea extract to boost metabolism. Still, it goes beyond adding cayenne to enhance thermogenesis, glucomannan to regulate appetite, L-theanine to boost focus, and vitamins and minerals to reduce fatigue.

It has higher ingredient doses than Vintage Burn and other fat burners, making it an ultimate fat burner for professional athletes looking to get the most out of their training and active people looking to shed excess fat and put on muscle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Vintage burn supplements and two fit men in the background

Does Vintage Burn Contain Stimulants?

Yes, Vintage Burn contains stimulants, including caffeine and green coffee bean extract. These are directly tied to increased metabolic rates that provide added energy and fat loss properties.

Does Vintage Burn Actually Work?

Yes, Vintage Burn does work to an extent when it comes to shedding some of the flabby stuff. However, there are some question marks over some ingredients, which are covered above in this Vintage Burn review.

How Do You Take Vintage Burn?

You take Vintage Burn by swallowing two capsules per day. This is the recommended daily dose, but for high-performance athletes and bodybuilders in a cutting phase, this can be slightly increased.

What Does Vintage Burn Taste Like?

Vintage Burn is one of those products that doesn’t have any taste, as it isn’t provided in a powder form to mix into a shake. Instead, you simply swallow capsules that have no flavor at all.

Where Can You Buy Vintage Burn?

You can buy Vintage Burn directly through the Old School company website or on Amazon. Don’t buy it from any other source to avoid counterfeit products. Some outlets sell authentic products, but they might be subpar or even expired. These are risks you're not willing to take since the side effects could be devastating to your health.

What Is the Vintage Burn Guarantee?

Vintage Burn comes with a money-back guarantee that allows you to request a full refund if you’re not satisfied with it. You don’t even need to return your order.

You can also watch this video review by The Gym Rat World to know more about his experience in this supplement.

Should You Buy Vintage Burn?

Upon completing this Vintage Burn review, I’ve reached the conclusion that this fat burner may not be worth the investment if you are serious about leveling up your workout performance and losing fat quickly.

Although I noticed a slight increase in energy and concentration after six months of using the Vintage Burn fat burner, my fitness performance remained nearly unchanged, and I did not lose any weight.

The best thing about PhenQ, in my experience, was that it significantly enhanced my energy level during workouts, suppressed my hunger, and increased my metabolism, causing me to lose a significant amount of weight.

Furthermore, PhenQ is the fat burner alternative with far fewer side effects.
